UFC Vegas 35 video: Andre Petroski finishes Michael Gillmore with vicious elbows on the ground
Andre Petroski had something to prove with his performance at UFC Vegas 35 as The Ultimate Fighter veteran gutted out a third-round TKO win over fellow cast member Michael Gillmore.
Following past problems with his gas tank, Petroski had to show some heart and determination going into the third round before securing a huge takedown and then blasting away with elbows to finish Gillmore with strikes on the canvas.
The official end time came at 3:12 in the third round as Petroski picks up a win in his octagon debut.
“Somebody call Jeff Bezos because the next guy who steps into the octagon with me, I’m sending them into orbit,” Petroski said following his victory. “Let’s go! I got a lot of opponents I want to fight.”
It didn’t take long for Petroski to exert his dominance on the ground as he put Gillmore on the ground and immediately started to play his grappling game. Petroski scored on two separate takedowns including a huge slam that brought Gillmore crashing to the canvas.
There were moments where it appeared Petroski was setting up a submission but he ultimately just maintained control on top while Gillmore was biding his time until the horn sounded.
On the restart in round two, Petroski was notably slower, which has been the same issue he’s dealt with throughout his career. Realizing that Petroski was labored in his movement, Gillmore was able to get more offensive as he tagged his fellow reality show roommate with some stiff shots on the feet.
It was still a back-and-forth fight and Petroski looked to turn the momentum to his favor after finally securing another takedown and then following with another as the last round got started.
Once Petroski got back on top, he looked to pass Gillmore’s defense and that allowed him to start hammering away with some vicious ground and pound. Once several elbows were dropped with Gillmore trapped underneath him, the referee saw that enough was enough as the fight was stopped and Petroski celebrated his debut win in the UFC.
Petroski teased a future at either middleweight or welterweight and if he can get his conditioning in check, he appears to be a solid prospect to watch in 2021 and beyond.
