ONE Championship announces new fights for Eddie Alvarez, Christian Lee and Aung La N Sang

ONE Championship

ONE Championship has booked several high profile fights for upcoming cards in April and May including the return of former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez.

The news was announced by ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

After being forced out of the ONE Lightweight Grand Prix due to injury, Alvarez will make his return on May 29 in Manila in the Philippines when he takes on highly touted Dagestani prospect Saygid “Dagi” Guseyn Arslanaliev.

When the ONE Grand Prix started, Alvarez and Arslanaliev were popular picks to eventually meet in the finals. Unfortunately, Alvarez was eliminated in the opening round after suffering a first-round TKO in a fight against Timofey Nastyukhin.

Alvarez re-entered the tournament as an alternate following a win over former ONE lightweight champion Eduard Folayang but he was then forced out of the competition due to injury.

As for “Dagi,” he managed to make it all the way to the finals but ultimately fell in a decision to current ONE lightweight champion Christian Lee.

Lee will actually join the same card with Alvarez vs. Arslanaliev when he faces undefeated challenger Iuri Lapicus in one of the two title fights announced for the card.

As MMA Fighting previously confirmed, Brandon Vera will defend his heavyweight title against UFC veteran Arjan Bhullar on May 29 as well.

A month earlier on April 10, ONE Championship will land in Jakarta, Indonesia where former UFC champion Demetrious Johnson faces current flyweight champion Adriano Moraes.

ONE middleweight champion Aung La N Sang will also make his return on the same card in a trilogy fight against Vitaly Bigdash after they split their first two meetings.

More fights will be announced in the coming weeks as ONE Championship begins building their schedule for 2020.
