Clay Guida vs. Mark O. Madsen in the works for UFC event on Aug. 21
Veteran lightweight Clay Guida will look to hand Olympic silver medalist Mark O. Madsen the first loss of his career when they clash at an upcoming UFC event on Aug. 21.
Multiple sources confirmed to MMA Fighting that verbal agreements are in place for the matchup, although bout agreements have not been signed just yet. The bout was first confirmed by Danish outlet ViaRitzau on Wednesday.
Undefeated thus far in his mixed martial arts career, Madsen currently holds a 2-0 resume in the UFC after picking up wins over Danilo Belluardo and Austin Hubbard. His last win over Hubbard in March 2020 came at the cost of a broken jaw, which obviously kept him sidelined for several months after the event.
Now he’ll return to action for the first time in over a year when he faces off with Guida, who is currently coming off a win over Michael Johnson in his most recent outing.
As a 15-year veteran of the UFC, Guida has faced the best of the best throughout his career and after returning to lightweight he’s amassed a 4-3 record over his past seven fights. He’s also picked up wins over UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn and Joe Lauzon during his current run at 155 pounds.
The upcoming event on Aug. 21 is expected to be headlined by a middleweight showdown between former title contender Paulo Costa and heavy-handed slugger Jared Cannonier.
