UFC Jacksonville live blog: Drew Dober vs. Alexander Hernandez

This is the UFC Jacksonville live blog for Drew Dober vs. Alexander Hernandez, a lightweight bout on Wednesday’s fight card at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla.

Dober comes into the fight with back-to-back knockout wins – over the likes of Nasrat Haqparast and Marco Polo Reyes – on his resume, while Hernandez most recently earned a decision over Francisco Trinaldo.

Round 1: The third man in the cage for this lightweight bout is Herb Dean. The two men start things off quickly with a few heated exchanges. Dober takes the center of the cage with Hernandez light on his feet on the outside. One minute in, and Hernandez shoots in on a single leg and powers through for the takedown. Dober get to the fence and stands quickly though and they’re back to standing with Dober pressing the action and Hernandez looking to land kicks on the outside. Dober lands a crisp left hand that gets Hernandez’s attention. Dober still pressing the action and now Hernandez has a small cut. Hernandez ducks under a big left hand from Dober but Dober shows tremendous takedown defense and staves it off. Dober is now pressuring very effectively, landing combinations and forcing Hernandez into full retreat. Hernandez tries to load up on a few shots to dissuade Dober but nothing lands and Hernandez appears to suffer an eye poke as the round ends.

Round 2: One good turn deserves another and round two starts almost immediately with an eye poke from Hernandez. After a brief respite, the action resumes and Dober is still coming forward but now Hernandez is really sitting on his counters trying to back Dober up. Hernandez goes for an excellent level change but Dober is once again able to stuff it. Dober is keeping Hernandez’s back against the fence but Hernandez’s defense has so far been able to keep him safe from the big shots. This is a very interesting dynamic. Neither man is landing a lot but the action is heavy. Dober catches Hernandez with a straight right that drops Hernandez against the fence! Hernandez is quickly up again but Dober smells blood and rushes in. Hernandez ducks under and drive on a takedown and now Dober is on the mat! Dober pushes off and gets up and he’s back on the hunt. Hernandez is eating shots and clearly still hurt. Herb Dean looks like he’s about to jump in when Hernandez ducks under and scores another takedown! It’s short-lived though as Dober quickly stands and now he’s rifling shots into Hernandez’s head as he stands against the fence and Herb Dean steps in to save Hernandez!
