UFC Vegas 36 post-fight bonuses: Pimblett scores first-round TKO

The Apex Center in Las Vegas, Nevada was home to a solid night of fights at UFC Vegas 36: Brunson vs. Till. The card saw three (T)KOs, two submissions and four decisions.
The undercard opened with a hard-fought battle between Dalcha Lungiambula and Marc-Andre Barriault that saw the Canadian “Powerbar” get his hand raised. That was followed by Julian Erosa scoring the upset when he secured a second-round D’arce choke of Charles Jourdain that left him gasping for “Air.” Jack Shore, the firmest chalk on the card, won the lopsided unanimous decision over Liudvik Sholinian, as expected. The “Meatball” Molly McAnn took the unanimous decision victory over Ji Yeon Kim in a fantastic battle to close out the prelims.
The main card opened with former Cage Warriors champion Paddy Pimblett wading right through a rough moment, then showing the violent aggression he’s become known for. He finished Luigi Vendramini with a barrage of punches, securing a nasty TKO, putting an emphatic stamp on his US debut. Khalil Rountree would also score a big upset when he landed an oblique kick that wrecked (no exaggeration) Modestas Bukauskas’ knee, forcing the injury TKO in the second round. Alex Morono and David Zawada went the distance, but it was another instance where the latter was too tough for his own good and ended up getting beat up for the majority of the fight. Morono took the lopsided unanimous decision and joins his teammate, TUF 29 winner Ricky Turcios, in the winner’s circle. Tom Aspinall once again scored a first-round finish, this time a vicious elbow following a knee would set the TKO in motion, dropping the Moldovan “Polar Bear” and extending his perfect octagon record.
The main event was a testament to Brunson’s wrestling, and Till’s lack of takedown defense. To his credit, Darren did repel one attempt in the second round, but by and large, Derek had his way with the Brit. In addition to lead-heavy top control, Brunson stayed busy, landing elbows and punches, creating a pretty big goose egg under Till’s eye. The third round was pivotal and saw Till tap out to a rear-naked choke.
