Shane Burgos vs. Billy Quarantillo on tap for UFC 268

The UFC’s return to Madison Square Garden will feature an exciting featherweight tilt.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Shane Burgos and Billy Quarantillo will take place at UFC 268. The event takes place Nov. 6 in the promotion’s return to New York for the first time since UFC 244 in November 2019. MMA DNA was first to report the booking.

Burgos enters the fight in unfamiliar territory. “Hurricane” has lost consecutive fights for the first time in his career as he looks to get back on track following a unanimous decision loss to Josh Emmett in June 2020 at UFC on ESPN 11, along with a third-round knockout loss to Edson Barboza in the Fight of the Night at UFC 262 in May.

Quarantillo has won nine of his last 10 bouts and was able to bounce back from his first UFC loss to Gavin Tucker by defeating Gabriel Benitez via third-round TKO at July’s UFC Vegas 31 event. The 32-year-old picked up wins over Jacob Kilburn, Spike Carlyle and Kyle Nelson after securing a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in July 2019.

UFC 268 will feature two championship rematches, including a welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington in the main event, along with Rose Namajunas defending her strawweight belt in a rematch against former champ Zhang Weili.
