Jorge Masvidal announces Gamebred Fighting Championship 2 postponement after Hurricane Ida

Jorge Masvidal’s second Gamebred Fighting Championship event will no longer take place next weekend.

Gamebred FC 2 was scheduled to take place in Biloxi, Miss., on Sept. 11, but the impact of Hurricane Ida has forced the bare-knuckle MMA company to postpone the card, Masvidal announced via Instagram on Friday.

The “BMF” champion stated that the reason for the move was to make sure there were enough hotel rooms available for those affected by the hurricane in Mississippi and Louisiana.

“I, in good conscience, have decided not to take resources from the people that need it most during this time,” Masvidal said.

Masvidal also revealed that those scheduled to compete on next Saturday’s card will be moved to the promotion’s event on Oct. 1 in Biloxi.

The main event originally was slated to feature former UFC fighters Antonio Silva and Alex Nicholson, but “Bigfoot” recently signed on to compete for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC promotion later in October. Jack May was revealed as Silva’s replacement, but promotional officials confirmed to MMA Fighting that May tested positive for COVID-19, and 99-fight MMA vet Jonathan Ivey was booked against Nicholson. It’s unclear whether the promotion will maintain that matchup for the new Oct. 1 date.
