Jake Paul says he’s retired from boxing

As always, take combat sports retirement announcements with a grain of salt.

Jake Paul (4-0, 3 KOs) has apparently decided to end his boxing career on a winning note.

Paul tweeted on Monday his uh... retirement announcement, which simply reads “Updated status: Retired boxer.” Don’t believe me? That’s why I embedded the tweet below.

Paul defeated Tyron Woodley by split decision in Sunday’s Showtime PPV main event. After shooing away the idea of a rematch — Woodley thought he was robbed of a win — Jake said to Tyron could get a rematch only if he tattooed “I love Jake Paul” on himself first.

The 24-year-old Paul made his pro debut in 2020 against fellow social media influencer AnEsonGib, winning by first-round TKO. Paul then wiped out former NBA player Nate Robinson by second-round KO last November before crushing retired ex-Bellator and ex-ONE champion Ben Askren in April.

Now it should be pointed out, in fairness, that his post-fight interview involved talking about taking time away from the sport but not necessarily retiring. He obviously has other avenues for making income in ways that many combat sports athletes don’t. If he ends up walking back his retirement to fight again, then he’ll have officially shown himself to be fully invested in being a combat sports athlete.
