Frankie Edgar returns to The Big Apple.

MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the matchup that the former UFC lightweight champion and current bantamweight contender will fight Marlon Vera (19-7-1) at UFC 268 on Nov. 9 at Madison Square Garden in New York. ESPN was the first to report the bout.

This marks the third fight in New York for Edgar—a proud New Jersey native—after he made his pro debut there in 2005, and his second appearance at MSG, where he defeated Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision at UFC 205 in 2016. Edgar (24-9-1) is coming off of a brutal 28-second knockout loss to Cory Sandhagen in February and he has lost three of his past four fights. He is currently ranked No. 10 at 135 pounds in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings.

“Chito” most recently avenged a loss to Davey Grant, defeating the Englishman by unanimous decision in June. In his past five outings, Vera has alternated wins and losses, with a notable victory over rising star Sean O’Malley.

UFC 268 is expected to be headlined by a welterweight championship rematch between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. Lightweight contenders Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler are also expected to meet in New York, though some concerns have been raised about the status of that bout due to Chandler publicly stating that he is not planning to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

As of Sept. 13, a proof of vaccination will be required for customers to enter restaurants, gyms, and indoor entertainment venues such as Madison Square Garden.
