Cezar Ferreira loses via apparent hamstring injury at PFL 9, accused of taking a dive

Cezar Ferreria’s PFL season ended in the most unfortunate way after he apparently injured his hamstring on the first kick he threw in a light heavyweight semifinal bout against Marthin Hamlet at PFL 9.

Ferreira’s reaction to the injury was immediate as he clutched his right leg – on which he balanced while throwing a left front kick – and dropped to the mat. Hamlet pounced with punches, but the fight was effectively over already with the referee stepping in to save Ferreira just 13 seconds into the opening round.

Check out the ending sequence below.

Ferreira lay on the canvas for several moments after the bout was called off. The winner of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 1 started his PFL season with a blistering knockout of Nick Roehrick, but subsequently dropped a decision to Chris Camozzi.

On Twitter, Camozzi took aim at his former opponent, accusing him of intentionally losing the fight in order to get a payday. Ferreira and his team weren’t immediately reachable for comment.

PFL 9’s main card was delayed by over one hour on ESPN2 when a high school football game between Milton vs. North Cobb went long. Hamlet advances to the finals of the light heavyweight tournament. The Norwegian fighter wished his opponent well, as did the promotion.
