Two January bouts shifted to UFC Fight Island 8 card
Next week’s Wednesday UFC event now has two more fights.
Officials announced Tuesday that a middleweight bout between Omari Akhmedov (20-5-1) and Tom Breese (12-2), and a previously postponed bantamweight bout between Umar Nurmagomedov (12-0) and Sergey Morozov (16-3) have both been moved to UFC Fight Island 8 on Jan. 20.
Akhmedov-Breese was originally scheduled to take place this Saturday at UFC Fight Island 7, while Nurmagomedov-Morozov was delayed from its originally scheduled date of UFC 254 on Oct. 24 when Nurmagomedov withdrew due to an illness.
The Nurmagomedov-Morozov change was first reported by TASS.
Akhmedov looks to bounce back from a loss to former UFC champion Chris Weidman this past August, which ended a six-fight unbeaten streak. Breese fights for the fifth time since 2016 and has alternated wins and losses in his past five, most recently defeating KB Bhullar by first-round TKO.
Nurmagomedov is a cousin and teammate of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. He has previously competed for the PFL and Gorilla Fighting Championship (now Eagle Fighting Championship) and is unbeaten in 12 pro bouts since debuting in December 2016. This is the fourth time that his UFC debut has been booked.
Morozov is a former M-1 Global bantamweight champion. He won five straight fights before signing with the UFC.
