Rogan explains why he interviewed Cormier after UFC 241 loss

Joe Rogan responded to critics who have said the UFC commentator shouldn’t have spoken to Daniel Cormier after his fourth-round TKO loss to Stipe Miocic.

Joe Rogan made a point to explain to fans why he interviewed Daniel Cormier after his knockout loss at UFC 241.

The longtime UFC color commentator said in a Facebook post that after the UFC requested Rogan speak to Cormier on the broadcast, he asked Cormier if it was alright that he interviewed him and that Cormier said yes. Cormier dropped the heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic by fourth-round TKO on Saturday in Anaheim.

“Some people were confused as to why I interviewed DC after the fight because I’ve publicly stated that I don’t think it’s a good idea to interview fighters after they’ve been KO’ed,” Rogan wrote. “I think most of what happened to DC was those brutal body shots, and although Stipe dropped him with head shots he was never out cold, and seemed clear headed after he stood up and the results were announced to the crowd and Stipe got the belt given to him.”

Rogan said the fact that Cormier, 40, is so close to retirement played part of the reason why he felt it was necessary to talk to him after the fight.

“Yes. I think interviewing fighters after a brutal loss is kinda sketchy, but I was also thinking that it’s possible that this may be the last time we see DC in the octagon,” Rogan wrote. “I love DC, and I would never want to put him in a bad position, but I made a judgment call and felt this would be alright.”

Rogan has long said that he prefers not to talk to fighters after knockout losses, because people don’t always make the most sense right after being concussed.

This, of course, came up the last time Cormier was finished in a fight. The former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion suffered a brutal knockout loss to Jon Jones in July 2017 and was visibly distraught in his post-fight interview with Rogan.

Rogan also regretted speaking with Alistair Overeem after an unsuccessful title shot against Miocic in September 2016. Miocic finished Overeem with ground-and-pound, and Overeem claimed afterward that Miocic tapped out earlier on in the fight, but the replay of the sequence seemed to disagree with him.
