Costa vows to ‘hunt down’ Romero, will wait for title shot
Paulo Costa reveals his future plans ahead of his bout against Yoel Romero at UFC 241.
It seems that rising middleweight prospect Paulo Costa has his future well thought out ahead of him. Paired up with former title challenger Yoel Romero for a battle at UFC 241, ‘Borrachinha’ shared his plans for the fight with Portal do Vale Tudo.
In Costa’s opinion, Romero will not be able to handle Paulo’s pressure and power once the fight starts, however, Borrachinha explains that it will be his calmness to wait for the exact moment to attack that will bring him the win.
“I’ll hunt him down from the first moment, because I know he will feel my strikes when I connect with them. Of course, I’ll remain and won’t rush it, I’ll wait for the right moment and if, by chance, which I find unlikely to happen, he wants to do the opposite and hunt me down, he will get countered and fall faster than he can imagine.”
However, Paulo’s plans did not stop at the Romero bout. Already thinking of title contention should he defeat Yoel, Costa says he will wait for the winner of the title unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya, scheduled for UFC 243.
“I’m certain that if I beat him (Romero), like I will, with a convincing win, like I always do, by knockout, my next fight will be for the belt. I’ll be waiting, watching the fight between the interim champion and linear champion, Adesanya vs. Whittaker, to see who my next opponent will be.”
Paulo Costa is expected to take on Yoel Romero at UFC 241, on August 17, in Anaheim, California. The card is set to be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between the champion, Daniel Cormier, and former title holder Stipe Miocic.
