Perry set to fight Oliveira at UFC Fort Lauderdale
It didn’t take long for the UFC to find Alex Oliveira a new opponent for April’s UFC Fort Lauderdale.
Mike Perry will look to avenge his recent loss to “Cowboy” against “Cowboy” at UFC Fort Lauderdale.
Perry, a popular welterweight, is set to meet Alex Oliveira at the April 27 event, which takes place at BB&T Center in Fort Lauderdale. Perry is filling in on short notice for Li Jingliang, who fell out of the Oliveira fight due to an injury earlier this week.
MMA Fighting reported the news Tuesday night after ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported the bout was targeted for the event.
Perry is coming off a first-round submission loss to Donald Cerrone last November at UFC Denver. Prior to that, he beat Paul Felder via decision at UFC 226. “Platinum,” who trains in Florida, is 1-3 in his last four bouts after a 4-1 start in the Octagon.
Oliveira had a two-fight winning streak snapped when Gunnar Nelson submitted him last December at UFC 231. He was coming off impressive finishes of Carlo Pedersoli and former interim champion Carlos Condit. The 31-year-old has recorded a 9-4, 1 NC UFC record since signing with the promotion in 2015.
UFC Fort Lauderdale is headlined by a pivotal middleweight rematch between Yoel Romero and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
