MMA Rundown: March 29th-30th - CES, LFA lead another packed weekend
Another busy weekend, as the month of March draws to a close with a lot of familiar faces and surging talent.
Another very packed weekend is ahead, with tons of potential and some curious nuggets from the international and regional scene. And when I say packed, I really mean it. Tons of stuff to watch, so be sure to make time for a lot of combat content.
CES 55 should be a party, as Connecticut will now be hosting MMA events on non-tribal land, and this week’s card is headlined by a welterweight title fight between prospects Jeremiah Wells (7-2) and Vinicius de Jesus (7-2). Former UFC fighter Matt Bessette returns to his stomping grounds in the co-main event, as he fights Tim Dooling (7-4).
The CES bantamweight title is also on the line, as Tony Gravely (17-5) faces Darren Mima (10-7). Former UFC fighter Eric Spicely is set to face another former UFC fighter in Caio Magalhães.
CES 55 kicks off Friday night at 9:00pm EST, streaming live on UFC Fight Pass.
LFA doesn’t have any titles at stake this week, but they’ve got some quality matchups to sort their divisions out. Derrick Krantz (23-10) faces Justin Patterson (11-4) in a welterweight duel between two great athletes that continue to develop and fight smart.
Undeafeated Brazilian featherweight prospect Gabriel Silva (6-0) takes on Jake Heffernan (7-0), and likely breakout star Hailey Cowan (2-1) returns against New England’s Sarah Click (2-2)
LFA 63 starts at 9:00pm EST on AXS TV, as usual.
Combate Americas returns to Arizona for a great title fight as bantamweight king Jose Alday (12-3, 1 draw) continues to upset more experienced opponents, and he readies himself against Xtreme Couture rep Gustavo Lopez in a rematch. Lopez lost the last bout by split decision, but remains one of the most complete and dangerous fighters in that division. Alday’s a durable athlete with slick striking and great defense, so this should be a great showdown.
Former Invicta fighter and BJJ ace Gabby Romero (2-3) faces newcomer Codie Wareham (2-0).
Combate 33 starts at 10:00pm EST Friday night, streaming live on DAZN.
Korea’s Double G FC has some notable names as well, with former UFC fighter Hyun Gyu Lim (14-7, 1 draw) battles Jae Young Kim (23-12) at middleweight, and former UFC fighter Dongyi “Ox“ Yang (14-3) faces Brazil’s Cally Gibrainn de Oliveira (3-0).
Japanese strikier Shizuka Sugiyama (16-6, 1 draw) meets Chan Mi Jeon (5-2) at flyweight.
Double G FC 02: Fight to Prove starts at 5:00am EST Saturday morning.
ACA 94 has a banger of a main event between Ali Bagov (27-10) vs Khusein Khaliev (19-1) for the lightweight title, live from Krasnodar, Russia. Not many international talents are featured here, but a lot of great Russian prospects.
Former Bellator fighter Magomedrasul “Frodo“ Khasbulaev (29-0) meets fellow featherweight Mukhamed Kokov (14-3). Flyweights Goga Shamatava (14-4) and Rasul Albaskhanov (8-3) are scheduled to fight, as are Igor Svirid (12-7) and Valery Myasnikov (14-1, 2 draws)
ACA 94 begins Saturday at noon, EST.
AFL 19 offers FIVE title fights on one card, featuring European talents Daniel Requeijo (14-7) and France’s Nicolas Joannes (17-14) vying for the featherweight title. Former UFC fighter Amilcar Alves (18-16) is still trudging along, and meets Spain’s Darwin Rodriguez (6-4) for the light heavyweight title.
AFL 19 starts at 12:30pm EST and available for purchase at FITE.tv for $14.99.
M-1 sets up shop in Kazakhstan for M-1 Challenge 101, and brings a lot of sturdy talents for this one. Hometown fighter Shavat Rakhmonov (10-0) takes on Danill Prikaza (11-2, 1 draw) for the welterweight title, and Poland’s Rafał Kijańczuk (7-0) faces Khadis Ibragimov (also 7-0) for the light heavyweight title.
Former UFC fighter Mickael Lebout (18-9, 3 draws) fights against Alik Albogachev (5-1) at lightweight.
M-1 Challenge 101 has their prelims airing free, and the main card for sale at FITE.tv for $7.99.
