Lawler-Woodley rematch booked for Fight Night in June

Robbie Lawler will get another shot at the man that took his welterweight title.

Minneapolis will likely be the place that Robbie Lawler gets another crack at Tyron Woodley. According to ESPN, the former UFC welterweight champions will face off in a headlining bout on a Fight Night show on June 29th. Verbal agreements have been made for the bout, though no contracts have been signed as of yet.

The two men originally met at UFC 201 in 2016, where Woodley stopped Lawler in just over two minutes to claim the 170-pound title from him.

Lawler (28-13, 1 NC, 13-7 UFC) is coming off a controversial submission loss to the debuting Ben Askren at UFC 235 earlier this month. UFC president Dana White had said that a rematch between Lawler and Askren was likely, but he seems to have moved away from that, as he is the one that confirmed the bout to ESPN.

Woodley (19-4-1, 9-3-1 UFC) defended his title four times since beating Lawler (three wins and a draw with Stephen Thompson) before running into Kamaru Usman at UFC 235. He was thoroughly dominated and dropped a wide decision.

The Fight Night show on June 29th will take place in the Target Center, and will air on ESPN.
