It appears medical complications from weight cutting have again hindered Karl Roberson’s UFC career.

Citing “medical issues,” Roberson announced he was forced to withdraw from his UFC 266 fight with Nick Maximov. In his place, the promotion has booked newcomer Cody Brundage, MMA Fighting confirmed after an initial report from MMA DNA.

Brundage, a Contender Series vet, takes the bout on three days’ notice for the preliminary-card fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout streams on UFC Fight Pass and ESPN+.

In a video posted to his Instagram account, Roberson told his followers, “these weight cuts really don’t agree with me any more. I’m pretty sure I f*cked my body up from cutting weight wrong early in my career. So for a y’all f*ckers who think this sh*t won’t catch up with you, pay attention, because it will.”

Roberson then stopped and retched.

At UFC Jacksonville, Roberson was taken to the hospital after missing weight for his scheduled fight with Marvin Vettori. His coach later told MMA Fighting he suffered an attack of rhabdomyolysis and was in severe condition before being pulled from the fight.

Maximov makes his UFC debut after winning a Contender Series appearance this past November to extend his unbeaten streak to 5-0. A product of the Nick Diaz Academy, he will take on the 5-1 Brundage, who was stopped by William Knight in his DWCS appearance one year ago.
