Sandhagen entered this main event bout with Moraes coming off of a loss to Aljamain Sterling that snapped a 5-0 start to his UFC career. Both fighters were looking to stay in the running for a title shot in the increasingly crowded bantamweight division, but it was Sandhagen who would make a statement in the second round.
After a competitive first five minutes, Sandhagen unleashed a spinning heel kick that banged right off the top of Moraes’ head, stunning the former World Series of Fighting champion and sending him stumbling to the canvas. Sandhagen followed with punches on the ground to seal the deal.
Sandhagen went on to fight Frankie Edgar four months later and he made it back-to-back highlight-reel finishes with a 28-second jumping knee knockout of Edgar. The win put Sandhagen at the very top of the bantamweight contenders’ list.
His next test? Two-time UFC champion T.J. Dillashaw. Sandhagen and Dillashaw clash in the main event of UFC Vegas 32 this Saturday at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
