Dustin Poirier has some zingers for Conor McGregor.

Nearly two full weeks may have passed, but this fight remains to be a hot topic. Maybe it’s because of the dissatisfying end or partly because of how Conor McGregor stirred the pot with claims about a pre-existing injury leading up to his UFC 264 headliner with Dustin Poirier.

A couple of doctors already expressed their doubts, while the Nevada Athletic Commission shut them down. One side we’ve never heard from through all of this was Poirier’s, and he finally spoke out in a recent interview with Teddy Atlas.

One of the things that both doctors questioned was McGregor’s incessant use of the supposed injured leg. “The Diamond” agreed that it wasn’t really a smart idea, as he gave more insight on where those kicks were landing that may have caused the injury.

It’s not smart. It’s not a smart game plan if it is hurt. Especially where he was kicking. He was kicking — not my thigh or my calf muscle — he was kicking at my knee. Every kick was bone on bone.

Even with technique, usually, you’d want to set up these kicks. He was throwing them by themselves. Usually, you wanna punch before you kick just to set it up. Just to get him thinking about something else. He was throwing kicks by themselves, single kicks by themselves directly on my knee.

I’m not sure why he did. Maybe it was in his head that he needed to come out and show me that he could do it too because I tore his leg up in the second fight. I have no clue what him and his coaches were thinking.

McGregor eventually posted photos of himself with a wrapped up left ankle and included a supposed MRI of the leg in question. Sports doctor David Abbasi, who previously gave his analysis, found no evidence of leg fractures based on that scan alone.

As for Poirier, he also has his theories.

I don’t know what happened. I can’t say if he did or did not have (an injury). You know on your phone you can save a file with pictures? He might have had a file with a bunch of ankle-wrapped-up pictures that said ‘Plan B.’

Poirier also pointed out how McGregor tried to justify the loss earlier in the year too.

“There were a lot of excuses in the last one too,” Poirier said. “He was getting ready to box. He wasn’t focused on mixed martial arts. He was getting ready to fight Manny Pacquiao. You know, a lot of reasons, a lot of excuses.”

Poirier will now get a second crack at the UFC undisputed lightweight title sometime in the latter part of the year. Newly-minted champion Charles Oliveira has boldly predicted a dominant performance and a submission win for his maiden title defense.
