Miles Johns vs. Anderson dos Santos off UFC Vegas 31 due to positive COVID-19 test in dos Santos camp
UFC Vegas 31 is down a bantamweight contest.
MMA Fighting confirmed with officials that a bout between Miles Johns and Anderson dos Santos scheduled for Saturday’s preliminary card at UFC APEX in Las Vegas has been cancelled due to a positive COVID-19 test in dos Santos’ camp.
Johns first broke the news on Instagram:
It’s with great regret that I have to inform you all that I will not be fighting this evening. My opponent/camp tested positive for COVID so the fight is off.
I want to wish him a speedy recovery, want to thank the UFC for the opportunity but mainly want apologize to everyone who was looking forward to watching me fight today.
This was to be the first appearance of 2021 for both fighters. Johns defeated Kevin Natividad by third-round knockout in his most recent outing, while dos Santos is coming off of a first-round guillotine choke submission win over Martin Day.
This is the second time in three bookings that dos Santos has had a fight cancelled due to COVID-19. Dos Santos also tested positive for the virus ahead of a July 15 bout with Jack Shore. MMA Fighting confirmed with dos Santos that it was one of his coaches who tested positive on this occasion and not the fighter himself.
It is not yet known if officials will attempt to reschedule the Johns-dos Santos matchup for another date.
