UFC Vegas 27 results: Ricardo Ramos puts on takedown heavy performance to beat Bill Algeo
Ricardo Ramos secured eight takedowns over three rounds in order to win a unanimous decision against Bill Algeo at UFC Vegas 27.
Time after time, Ramos was able to close the distance, get inside and bring Algeo crashing down to the canvas as he trying to look for submissions to end the fight. While Algeo survived until the final horn, Ramos had still done enough to earn the victory with the scorecards reading 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 in his favor.
“Feeling good,” Ramos said after getting back in the win column following a loss in his previous appearance. “Bill Algeo is a warrior and he was the perfect guy to test my warrior spirit today. I was spying on Instagram, I could see him training with wrestling shoes. I’m a complete fighter. MMA is my thing so I can do whatever I need to do to win the fight.”
As the fight got started, Ramos was quick to close the distance where he nearly took the back on two different occasions with Algeo still standing. Each time, Ramos failed to secure both hooks, which allowed Algeo to escape and avoid any serious danger from the submission attempts.
Ramos continued pressing forward as he looked to drag Algeo to the ground and apply his grappling game. While Algeo was giving up takedowns, he kept finding a way to slip free and get back to his feet.
As time passed into the second round, Algeo was starting to connect with more of his combinations but still struggling to avoid Ramos’ wrestling him down to the mat. That said, Algeo’s constant pressure and pace had Ramos slowing down with more labored movement, which made avoiding the takedowns a little easier.
Ramos was continuing to rely on his wrestling in the third but Algeo was beginning to get wise to his timing and technique, which then allowed him to get a little looser with his strikes. Still, Ramos was the one moving forward and seeking out the takedowns with Algeo doing everything possible to avoid his back hitting the mat.
Despite not getting the finish, Ramos was rewarded for his well-timed wrestling offense as well as the submission attempts, which obviously convinced the judges that he did enough to deserve the win.
Overall, Ramos is now 3-1 in his last four fights as he continues to prove he’s a tough out for anybody in the UFC featherweight division.
