T.J. Dillashaw vs. Cory Sandhagen rebooked for July 24 UFC event
T.J. Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen once again are scheduled to fight after a cut to Dillashaw ruled him out of UFC Vegas 26.
The top-tier bantamweights will meet at a July 24 event at a date and venue to be confirmed, the UFC announced Thursday. MMA Junkie was first to report the new booking.
The event could take place at UFC APEX in Las Vegas; UFC President Dana White has indicated the venue will host future Fight Night events after UFC 261 and UFC 262 took place in Florida and Texas, respectively.
Dillashaw said he was head-butted in training and posted a picture of the cut that ruled him out of the fight with Sandhagen. A flyweight fight between Michelle Waterson and Marina Rodriguez served as the replacement headliner for the May 8 show.
Dillashaw, a former bantamweight champion, sat two years due to an anti-doping suspension for erythropoietin (EPO). He relinquished the title and admitted to cheating in preparation for a flyweight title shot against then-champ Henry Cejudo in 2019 that Dillashaw lost via TKO in just 32 seconds.
Sandhagen aims to put another ex-champ on his resume after he knocked out former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar with a flying knee in Feburary. It was his second straight win since a submission loss to current champ Aljamain Sterling that marked his first octagon setback.
