Max Holloway opens as massive favorite in Yair Rodriguez matchup

Max Holloway | Zuffa LLC

Max Holloway is still getting the respect of a champion.

The former featherweight king next fights Yair Rodriguez at a UFC event on July 17 and the oddsmakers see Holloway as a huge favorite. According to betting site BetOnline.ag, Holloway opened as a -375 favorite to defeat Rodriguez.

As of this publication date, the line has actually moved to -400 for Holloway, making him a clear 4-to-1 favorite. Rodriguez is currently a +300 underdog.

Holloway has been a dominant force at 145 pounds for the past seven years, winning 15 of his past 17 fights in the division, with his only losses coming in back-to-back championship bouts against Alexander Volkanovski. After losing his featherweight title by unanimous decision to Volkanovski at UFC 245, the two met in an immediate rematch at UFC 251 that ended in a razor-thin split decision victory for Volkanovski.

“Blessed” returned to the win column this past January with a lopsided five-round decision win over Calvin Kattar.

For Rodriguez, this will be his first fight since October 2019. He brings an 8-1 (1 NC) UFC record into the July 17 bout and has won two straight fights (excluding a no contest).
