Pros react to Chris Weidman’s gruesome broken leg at UFC 261
In a shocking turn of events, former UFC middleweight Chris Weidman suffered the same injury of his two-time opponent Anderson Silva when he broke his leg on a kick checked by Uriah Hall at UFC 261.
Weidman’s foot folded gruesomely around Hall’s shin, and he dropped to the mat as he planted on his right foot. The former champion writhed in pain as the bout was instantly called off just 17 seconds into the pay-per-view bout at Vystar Veteran’s Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla.
The audience sat in shock, with some behind the UFC commentary booth crying as Weidman, whose check broke Silva’s leg more than seven years ago in their rematch at UFC 168, was put on a stretcher and taken out of the octagon.

I’ve seen bad injuries in this sport. @chrisweidman @ufc injury was the worst I’ve ever seen. Seeing him on the stretcher screaming in pain ... I’ve ruptured a testicle and had emergency surgery. I know pain, I think docs need morphine on hand for these few moments #ufc261
— Devin Powell (@DevinPowellMMA) April 25, 2021
Y’all remember when Jose Also use to run across the cage and leg kick his opponents... YEAH, Im glad he stopped, the game has changed and people sit into those kicks which could injure the leg severely ! #UFC261
— Derek Brunson (@DerekBrunson) April 25, 2021
These last two fights are the reason why I don’t pay much attention to the fights in the locker room when I’m warming up. I want that type of stuff out of sight and out of mind before I make the walk. #ufc261

So strange there have only been 3 snapped legs in UFC history and Weidman has been a part of 2
