This summer Conor McGregor will have his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 264. But despite the fact that McGregor is rematching a man who just knocked him out cold, that doesn’t mean “Notorious” doesn’t have enough time to keep another trilogy fight alive: his rivalry with Nate Diaz.

Last week on social media, McGregor suggested the UFC create two specialty belts for him, “The McGregor Belt” and the “Richest Motherf***** Belt.” Diaz took the opportunity to mock McGregor over the request and that shot seemingly got underneath the former two-division champion’s skin as Sunday, McGregor accused Nate Diaz of taking PEDs.

McGregor’s claim is not entirely baseless. In 2019, Diaz had an adverse finding in a pre-fight drug test ahead of his bout with Jorge Masvidal for the “Baddest Motherf***** Belt.” However, Diaz was cleared of all wrong doing almost immediately, and in fact, it was Diaz who brought the issue to light publicly. Still, that didn’t stop McGregor from putting the UFC’s entire USADA program on blast, to which UFC Vice President Jeff Novitzky did respond.

Novitzky wasn’t the only one to respond to McGregor’s claims though. Diaz, of course, also fired back, once again mocking McGregor, this time for losing to him. From there, a series of back-and-forths commenced with Diaz taking shots at McGregor’s home fitness program, McGregorFast, and McGregor plugging his program and once again accusing Diaz of steroid use.

Both McGregor and Diaz are currently scheduled to fight other men, Poirier and Leon Edwards respectively, but given the way they bicker like an old married couple, it seems inevitable that at some point, the two will have to face each other at least one more time.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Many people hated it, and it’s certainly not for everyone, but Triller was largely fun as hell in the most absurdist way. Like FightCircus with a big budget.
