UFC Fight Island 2 results and video: Lipski kneebars Carolina

Check out the results and video from the UFC Fight Island 2, where Rafael Fiziev out-struck Marc Diakiese, and Ariane Lipski hit a sweet kneebar on Luana Carolina.

The UFC Fight Island 2 main card is underway and Rafael Fiziev just outclassed Marc Diakiese on the feet to earn a unanimous decision. Fiziev attacked with cracking body kicks right away to set the tone of the fight. He then proceeded to get the better of Diakiese in the striking department, and was able to fend off the takedown attempts to keep the fight where he wanted it. After stumbling in his promotional debut, Fiziev has now won two in a row with quite a fan-friendly style.

Before that, Ariane Lipski pulled off a crafty counter-kneebar on Luana Carolina in the first round. Carolina was attacking with a calf slicer, but then Lipski countered with a leg lock of her own for the tap. It looks like Lipski is building some steam with consecutive wins under the UFC banner. Opening up the main card, the promotion’s #4 ranked 125-pounder, Alexandre Pantoja, and the #7 ranked, Askar Askarov, went the distance in a highly competitive affair. This one was full of flyweight scrambles and a bit of sticky boxing. When the dust had settled, it was Askarov who walked away with a unanimous decision to remain undefeated. With the win, he thrusts himself up the rankings and in contention for a shot at whoever the champion might be by the end of the night.

Main card:

Rafael Fiziev def. Marc Diakiese by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28 x2): Lightweight

Fiziev clocked Diakiese with a big body quick before grabbing double unders and getting a takedown. He controlled for a bit before standing back up. Back to the body kicks he went, each one sounding like the cracking of a whip. Diakiese tried to shoot in, but Fiziev stuffed the attempt and took top position. Again they stood up and Fiziev went back to the body kick and built upon it with his boxing.

Diakiese kicked towards the head of Fiziev, but a Matrix-like maneuver from Fiziev allowed him to bend out of the way. Fiziev started to march forward behind a varied attack of punches and kicks. Diakiese was looking to wrestle, but Fiziev was having none of it. Forced to stand, Diakiese managed to score a bit with his hands before the end of the round.

Another massive body kick from Fiziev opened the final round. Diakiese was throwing his punches with bad intentions, seeming to have a sense of urgency, but struggled a bit to hit his mark. Fiziev did a great job moving his head and disrupting the rhythm of Diakiese. There was a moment where Diakiese hit Fiziev with a spinning back kick to the face, but like a mad man Fiziev ate it without issue. The men traded back and forth down the street, with neither man really able to hurt the other.

Ariane Lipski def. Luana Carolina by submission (Kneebar) at 1:28 of round 1: (W) Flyweight

Lipski looked sharp with her hands right away, knocking over Carolina with a body cross. She took top position and Carolina threatened with a leg lock. Instead of stepping out, Lipski settled in and defended the calf slicer by attacking with a kneebar. After a couple of shifts and adjustments, Lipski had the kneebar fully sunk in, prompting Carolina to frantically submit.

Askar Askarov def. Alexandre Pantoja by unanimous decision (29-28 x3): Flyweight

Pantoja went right after Askarov and ended up giving up top position after botching a guillotine. Pantoja threatened with an armbar, but Askarov shook it off and proceeded to enjoy top position. Askarov kept Pantoja defensive and busy fighting off the takedown attempts. Pantoja did hit a slick back take, and worked for an RNC until the bell.

Askarov found himself on top again in the second round, but Pantoja was much more concerned about standing up than he was int he first round. Pantoja got up but Askarov kept bringing a pressure-grappling game. There were plenty of back and forth scrambles, with Pantoja taking the back just before the bell.

The flyweights shared a hug to start the final frame. Askarov threw a low kick and was knocked over from a counter cross from Pantoja. Askarov was quick to get back to his feet, and was able to to land a couple hard punches behind his jab. There wasn’t a lot of grappling going on in this round, and a lot of sticky boxing going on.
