White on Jones’ UFC future: It’s ‘up to him’
Dana White and Jon Jones continue to trade barbs.
UFC president Dana White has said Jon Jones’ UFC future is up to nobody but ‘Bones’ himself.
The war of words between White and Jones started when White claimed that Jones was asking for “an absurd amount of money” to move up to heavyweight and fight Francis Ngannou. Since then, Jones says he has relinquished his light heavyweight title, labelled White a “f—king liar” and even requested his release from the promotion.
White gave his take on Jones’ recent comments in a statement to The Canadian Press on Monday.
“Jon Jones is one of the greatest to ever do it,” said White. “The decision he wants to make regarding his career is up to him. The reality is that he’s made enough money from fighting that he’s now in the position to retire and never work again in his life.”
Jones (26-1, 1 NC) is arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. With his only loss being a farcical DQ back in 2009, ‘Bones’ has defeated names such as Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafsson and Rashad Evans during his lengthy UFC career.
Whilst usually making headlines for the wrong reasons, the 32-year-old was filmed taking away spray cans from protestors who were clearly looking to cause trouble in his home city of Albuquerque.
