Aljamain Sterling just choked out Cory Sandhagen in the first round on the UFC 250 PPV main card.

The UFC 250 PPV main card is rolling right along, and the company’s #2 ranked bantamweight, Aljamain Sterling, just choked out the surging #4 ranked, Cory Sandhagen, in the first round. Aljo pushed the pace right away, took the back, and got the tap. Despite Sandhagen tapping out, he unfortunately went to sleep before Aljo was able to release the hold. Sterling is now enjoying a five-fight winning streak, breaking up seven in a row for Sandhagen. With the bantamweight belt being vacant, this sort of performance from Aljo gives him an excellent chance at getting a shot at UFC gold in the new future.

Aljo pressed forward immediately and found himself on the back of Sandhagen. He attacked with an RNC, but Sandhagen fought it off. Aljo went for the attempt a second time, and this was much tighter than the last time. Sandhagen tried to hang tough, but was forced to tap. To add insult to injury, although Sandhagen tapped, he went unconscious before Aljo had a chance to let go of the hold.

Aljamain Sterling def. Cory Sandhagen by submission (RNC) at 1:28 of round 1: Bantamweight
