UFC 250 live blog: Amanda Nunes vs Felicia Spencer
This is the UFC 250 live blog for Amanda Nunes vs Felicia Spencer, the featherweight headliner for Saturday’s fight card at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Two-division champ Nunes attempts the first defense of her featherweight title, while Spencer takes on another MMA legend as a massive underdog after rebounding from a loss to ex-champ Cris Cyborg.

Round 1: Herb Dean is the third person in the cage for this main event title fight. Nunes comes out pressuring. 30 seconds in, Spencer charges forward for a clinch. Nunes denies it and clocks Spencer with a clean right hand. Spencer takes the shot well though. Nunes lands another clean right hand and Spencer is still okay but she’s got a mouse under her right eye. Nunes is landing shots from the outside but Spencer catches a kick and forces Nunes to the cage. Nunes tosses Spencer to the mat with a big hip toss! That was fun and now Nunes is in side control and looking to advance. Spencer gets to turtle position but Nunes spins and tries to take the back. Spencer immediately defends by turning in and now Nunes is back on top, this time in half guard. Nunes lands a big elbow. Another few elbows from Nunes and Spencer is really only looking to tie up here. Spencer is now bleeding but it’s not sure where. Nunes still chopping away from the top but Spencer regains full guard. Spencer is pinning Nunes’ right arm, looking for an attack by Nunes just makes her eat another elbow for her trouble.

Round 2: I was a one-sided round bu Spencer doesn’t seem that hurt. Spencer’s striking is . . . rudimentary, and Nunes is picking it apart with clean counters. Spencer charges in and lands a good jab. Nunes is stalking though. Strong leg kick from Nunes buckles the knee for a moment. Nunes loads up a big right hand that lands but Spencer seems no worse for wear. Another big right hand but Spencer ducks that one. Spencer gets a good entry but Nunes denies the takedown and turns it into one of her own. Spencer briefly looks for a guillotine but abandons it. Spencer gets an underhook and is trying to switch the position but Nunes lands some big elbows that forces Spencer to her back. Nunes stands and now Spencer is back to moving around, looking for entries. Nunes is being very patient with an opponent who clearly has nothing for her. Nunes is still landing shots basically at will. Full credit to Spencer though who has been very durable and looks in no way defeated in there. Nunes lands a few more good shots and the round ends.

Round 3: Nunes is in total control but it would be nice if she tried to force the issue. She could probably get the finish. Spencer rushes in, misses the takedown, but lands a good knee. Nunes steps in with a one-two and now Spencer is exchanging with her! That’s fun but temporary as Spencer wisely backs out. Spencer shoots from way outside and Nunes easily stuffs it. Nunes lands a shot that knocks Spencer’s mouthpiece out! Nunes comes forward but Dean steps in to let Spencer retrieve her gum shield. Back to the slow and inevitable march of Nunes’ victory. Nunes steps in on a single-leg and then ragdolls Spencer to the floor before stepping away. Nunes is toying with her food and lands a big right hand. Head kick is blocked but this is turning into a complete obliteration. Spencer tries another takedown but doesn’t get close. Spencer is getting reckless now and her left leg appears to be bothering her after a few leg kicks from the champion. Big uppercut from Nunes. Nunes stalking and another low kick lands that has Spencer in obvious pain. Nunes lands a spinning back fist at the end of the round.

Round 4: Much respect too Spencer who is still in this despite getting beat up. Nunes lands the biggest punch of the night and Spencer eats it cleanly. Spencer is unreal tough. Spencer is biting on all of Nunes feints now. Nunes hits a counter takedown and immediately stands up. Nunes is fresh as a daisy in here. This has been a walk in the park for her and now Nunes lands a lead elbow. So far in this round, Spencer has done a much better job of defense but then Nunes lands a spinning back kick to the body. Spencer is just completely outclassed her. Nunes lands another snatch-single leg takedown but doesn’t pursue Spencer to the floor. This is a shutout, man. Spencer gets clocked with another right hand but Nunes does not seem able to seriously hurt her. Nunes lands a leg kick that has Spencer in retreat. Spencer is still out here throwing punches but Nunes lands a counter that has Spencer seriously hurt! Nunes is looking to finish this! Spencer is in desperation mode and now in turtle! Nunes gets the choke under the chin! Spencer is saved by the bell but has a massive hematoma.

Round 5: Spencer’s corner should definitely have stopped this but honestly, she looks pretty recovered coming out for the fifth. Spencer comes out and lands a few punches but Nunes has no regard for her now. Spencer goes for a takedown but Nunes defends and spins to the back. Spencer rolls and gets Nunes in her half-guard. Nunes has 3:30 to get the finish but Spencer is deep in half-guard now. Nunes is controlling from the top. Spencer manages to get full guard. Nunes lands a chopping elbow but Spencer is doing a good job of tying her up. Spencer is cut open and bleeding profusely from the forehead. Good elbow from Nunes but she hasn’t been able to land a lot from this position. Spencer keeps looking to get her legs involved but Nunes finally just stands out of the guard. Ali-Inoki position and Spencer is butt scooting trying to tie up the legs. They finally stand and Herb Dean stops the bout to check the cut on Spencer. The doctor allows her to continue and there is only a minute left. Nunes steps in with 30 seconds left and lands a big right hand then a takedown. Spencer stands and Nunes lands another takedown. Nunes stands up and the bell sounds, ending a perfect fight from Nunes.
