Katlyn Chookagian came up short in her bid to win the UFC flyweight title against Valentina Shevchenko but she certainly made the most of her opportunity against the champion’s older sister.

At UFC on ESPN 9, Chookagian dominated Antonina Shevchenko from bell-to-bell with a completely lopsided unanimous decision victory over three rounds. When it was over, all three judges scored the fight 30-25 for Chookagian.

Known best as a striker, Chookagian surprised Shevchenko early with an immediate takedown in the opening round and then transitioning to take the back where she began looking for a rear naked choke. Chookagian stayed in that same position for almost the entirety of the round as she punished Shevchenko on the mat.

As the fight continued, Chookagian was just dishing out more of the same with Shevchenko trapped underneath her just trying to survive. Rather than seeking out a submission in the second round, Chookagian just battered Shevchenko with a barrage of punches from the mount.

With five minutes remaining, Chookagian opted to test her striking but Shevchenko still couldn’t match her overall output. Despite a lopsided score through the first two rounds, Shevchenko was still tentative on her feet and she ended up on her back yet again just before the final horn sounded.

The scorecards reflected the one-sided nature of the result with Chookagian bouncing back from her title fight loss with the best performance of her UFC career.

Rather than calling anybody out following the win, Chookagian instead hinted at plans to hopefully start a family in the somewhat near future.

“Honestly, I still have so much fight fever but I’m also starting to get a little baby fever,” Chookagian said. “So I’m just trying to get these fights in as fast as I can.”
