Morning Report: Tony Ferguson trashes Conor McGregor: ‘You’re still my b*tch,’ McGregor responds

Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson may be laying the groundwork for a fight with one another sooner rather than later.

Earlier this week, McGregor went on a Twitter rant, reacting to the new lightweight landscape following UFC 249, and Justin Gaethje’s interim title winning performance over Tony Ferguson. Among McGregor’s comments was a criticism of both Ferguson’s performance and his overall skill in general.

Ferguson is one of the most successful fighters in UFC lightweight history, sporting a 15-2 record in the UFC and having claimed interim title gold in 2017. He was supposed to face lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 249 but the coronavirus intervened, and instead his fought Gaethje. That gamble did not pay off for Ferguson as Gaethje now has earned the title fight but it may still yield dividends for “El Cucuy” as McGregor now seems interested in a possible bout with him. And if that’s the case, Ferguson is already laying the groundwork for a battle, responding to McGregor’s Tweet yesterday.

Never one to let anyone have the last word, McGregor responded to Ferguson, again mocking his performance from Saturday and the beating that Ferguson suffered at the hands of Gaethje.

At two of the top lightweights in the sport, Ferguson and McGregor have had a simmering rivalry for some years now, however it has never truly boiled over, in part because their rivalry has paled in comparison to both men’s rivalry with current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. But with Nurmagomedov locked in on a future title unification bout with Justin Gaethje, now may be the perfect time to let two of the most unique fighters in the UFC finally air it all out.
