UFC cancels four upcoming cards due to coronavirus

UFC Lincoln, UFC Oklahoma City, UFC 250 and UFC San Diego have all been canceled.

Four scheduled UFC events have been officially canceled by the promotion due to the coronavirus outbreak.

On Monday the promotion announced the following four cards had been canceled due to “current state and county restrictions on public gatherings” - UFC Lincoln on April 25th, UFC Oklahoma City on May 2nd, UFC 250 on May 9th and UFC San Diego on May 16th. Full refunds will be issued to fans who purchased tickets for the events.

Despite the cancellation of the cards, UFC president Dana White has still shown he is confident that events will soon take place by renting out a private island to host fights. White has even recently filed trademarks for ‘Fight Island’ and ‘UFC Fight Island’.

Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira were scheduled to meet in a light heavyweight fight at UFC Lincoln, which was supposed to take place this coming weekend. A middleweight clash between former champion Chris Weidman and top contender Jack Hermnasson was expected to headline UFC Oklahoma, but travel restrictions meant Hermansson couldn’t travel so that fight was already scratched.

UFC 250 was expected to take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil and feature two title fights. One of which included UFC featherweight and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, but she announced before the cancellation of the card she wouldn’t fight Felicia Spencer without a full training camp.

Not many fights had been booked for the Fight Night card in San Diego, however Dan Hooker vs. Dustin Poirier was being targeted to headline the card.
