Rousey: Anyone upset with my comments about ‘fake fights’ has never been in a fight
“Anyone who is outraged by me calling pro wrestling ‘fake fights for fun’ has never been in a real fight.”
Former UFC women’s bantamweight champ turned WWE star Ronda Rousey has come under fire for her recent comments about ‘fake fights’ and ‘ungrateful fans’ in the WWE.
Rousey says she’ll never return to the WWE on a full time basis but said having choreographed fights was fun while it lasted.
This didn’t go down too well with her fellow colleagues in the world of professional wrestling but ‘Rowdy’ says anyone who was offended by her comments has obviously never had a ‘real fight’ outside of the WWE.
“Anyone who is outraged by me calling pro wrestling ‘fake fights for fun’ has never been in a real fight,” Rousey posted on Instagram last week. “While you all are tip-toeing around bruising some pro wrestlers’ huge soft egos — no one is thinking about all the real fighters you’re insulting when pretending pro wrestling is somehow on the level of realism.
“Yes, I understand, wrestling 300 days a year for years on end is incredibly tough on the body and a difficult profession — but do you know what would happen if you got in 300 REAL fights a year? You would be dead.”
Rousey hasn’t fought in the wrestling ring since last April, when she lost her Raw Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat match with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 35. The 33-year-old retired from MMA after losing back-to-back fights to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes but is still widely considered one of, if not the, greatest female fighters of all time.
