Ray Longo reacts to Anderson Silva’s retirement comments: ‘What he’s saying is he’s a f**kin’ whore’

Chris Weidman’s longtime coach Ray Longo had a few laughs after listening to Anderson Silva’s recent comments about his attempt to retire from the sport in 2012.

“The Spider” said in an interview with the UFC that he flew to Las Vegas in late 2012 to inform UFC heads Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta he decided to hang up his gloves. Silva was the middleweight champion at the time and was coming off a win over Stephan Bonnar in a 205-pound bout in Brazil.

In the video interview, the UFC legend said he was rewarded with a Bentley Continental GT by White and Fertitta shortly after that, something he felt as an attempt to “buy him off.” Silva eventually agreed to enter the eight-sided cage again, going on to lose his middleweight belt to Weidman in July 2013.

“I mean, so basically what he’s saying is he’s a f**king whore,” Longo said on MMA & Beyond podcast. “And that the moral of the story [inaudible], and then for the rematch they gave him gift certificate to McDonald’s. They let him have a shopping spree at Target for the rematch. They bought him out. ‘Listen, I know you don’t wanna do this, but here’s a gift card to Starbucks.’ I don’t even understand what does that mean.

“Imagine that, though, when Dana and Lorenzo offered the Bentley and he took it, and then Lorenzo goes to Dana, ‘shit, we could’ve gotten him with a Chevy. We could’ve gotten him with a f**king SUV, a Honda SUV. Why the f**k we go with a Bentley, you f**cking morons?’ The hell is going on? [laughs]

“After he lost the first fight, he drove the f**cking Bentley into a wall.”

According to Silva, he decided he would have called it a career with a win over Weidman, but ended up losing his belt via knockout. The rematch was set for December of that year and his plans remained the same. “The Spider” ended up fracturing his leg at UFC 168. The Brazilian star entered the Octagon six times since then, adding one victory, four losses and one no contest to his record.
