Longo calls Silva ‘a f—king whore’ after retirement comments
Chris Weidman’s head coach didn’t take kindly to some recent comments made by Anderson Silva.
Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva recently said he intended to retire from MMA before his first fight with Chris Weidman in 2013. Those comments have drawn the attention of Weidman’s head coach Ray Longo who has put the Brazilian on blast.
Silva revealed that after telling Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta he was done with MMA in late 2012, he was gifted with a brand new Bentley Continental GT. “The Spider” thought the gift was an attempt to “buy him off”, but eventually he agreed to fight Weidman and suffered a knockout loss that ended his 16-fight winning streak.
Talking recently on an episode the MMA & Beyond podcast, Longo issued a scathing response to Silva’s comments.
“I mean, so basically what he’s saying is he’s a f—king whore,” Longo said. “And that the moral of the story [inaudible], and then for the rematch [with Weidman] they gave him gift certificate to McDonald’s. They let him have a shopping spree at Target for the rematch. They bought him out. ‘Listen, I know you don’t wanna do this, but here’s a gift card to Starbucks.’ I don’t even understand. What does that mean.” (Transcription via MMA Fighting)
Both Weidman (14-5) and Silva (34-10, 1NC) are at very different points of their careers compared to when they first met back in 2013. An unsuccessful debut at 205 pounds in his last fight, Weidman has won just one of his last six UFC fights. Meanwhile, Silva is 1-7 (and a no-contest) in his last eight fights.
“Imagine that, though, when Dana and Lorenzo offered the Bentley and he took it, and then Lorenzo goes to Dana, ‘shit, we could’ve gotten him with a Chevy,” Longo continued. “We could’ve gotten him with a f—king SUV, a Honda SUV. Why the f—k we go with a Bentley, you f—cking morons?’ The hell is going on? [laughs]
“After he lost the first fight, he drove the f—cking Bentley into a wall.”
