Video: Brandon Moreno’s raucous Tijuana homecoming after becoming UFC champion
Brandon Moreno has plenty to celebrate.
The new UFC flyweight champion was greeted by a raucous homecoming at his Entram Gym in Tijuana, Mexico, following his third-round upset of Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 263. Between a live mariachi band, a sprawling barbecue spread, and even someone sporting a fresh tattoo of Moreno’s moment of glory, it was quite a party in honor of the UFC’s first Mexican-born champion.
Catch video of that above.
Moreno (19-5-2) stunned Figueiredo in the rematch at UFC 263, capturing the belt with a rear-naked choke in a dominant performance as a 2-to-1 underdog. Moreno’s first meeting with Figueiredo in December ended in a majority draw and was widely hailed as one of the greatest flyweight bouts of all-time. In total, Moreno is undefeated over his last seven fights following his 2018 release from the UFC.
And if his breakout performances against Figueiredo were any indication, there could be plenty of successful Tijuana homecomings ahead for the 27-year-old champion.
